Part 5

Episodes 15-20

Stunt : Mercedes drives without driver through kiosk
From episode 15 : 'Rache ist süss'

In this scene a Mercedes rolls without a driver downwards over a slightly inclining road. Hereby he hits a car and a container. At the bottom of the road the car rolls through a kiosk. The problem with making this scene is how to let the Mercedes roll precisely across the right route to the kiosk. When the car would just roll without a driver, it will never hit the other car, the container and the kiosk. The stuntteam came up with the following solution for this problem: the driver of the Mercedes is dressed up as the drivers-seat. First the normal drivers-seat is removed. Then a smaller seat is placed, on which the stuntman takes his place. The stuntman is then dressed up as the seat, whereby the head of the stuntman is serving as the head-support. Next the stuntman drives in the Mercedes over the right route to kiosk and drives there through it. In the episodes it seems now that the Mercedes is rolling without a driver.

Stunt : Ghostdrivers on the highway
From episode 17 : 'Crash'

Before these actionscenes are filmed, first there have to be taken many preparations. The most important in this is that the scene is studied by all drivers of the cars, which are driving in the scene. This means that it is known before the scenes are filmed how fast all cars will drive, on which distance from eachother, how the ghostdrivers drive through the other traffic and how this traffic reacts on the ghostdrivers. When all drivers have learned this script, then the ghostdrivers-ride is performed several times to film the ride from different camera-angles.
In the episode "Crash" you can see two ghostdrivers-scenes with both a stunt at the end. In the first scene a Porsche drives through a barrier of the politie and hits a van behind which is standing a police-cop. This cop is hit by the van and is pushed away. Even for a stuntman something like that is very dangerous. That is why the stuntteam uses the Ratchet-system. Hereby the stuntman is attached to a steel rope. When the van threatens to hit the stuntman, he is pulled away from the van by the steel rope. What is special about this system is that the rope is coiled up very fast by a special machine and that this coiling up starts very fast. The rope is removed from the film with the help of a computer and now is just looks like as if the stuntman is pushed away by the van.
The second ghostdrivers-scene ends in a spectacular accident. A motor-cyclist sees the ghostdriving BMW too late and falls. The motor slides across the asphalt and hits the BMW, which crashes into a truck head-on. Hereby the BMW crashes in the middle of the wind-shield of the truck and the motor flies even over the truck. To realize this the stuntteam places a ramp just before the truck. In front of the ramp the motor is placed. Now the car hits first the motor, which is then launched via the ramp and flies over the truck. The BMW crashes via the ramp into the wind-shield of the truck. The BMW is hereby steered by a rail-system (see part 1) and crashes in the truck head-on without a driver. The ramp is removed from the recordings with the help of a computer.

Stunt : Car is 'unroofed' and drives into exploding benzine-barrels
From episode 18 : 'Kindersorgen'

For this stunt the stuntteam again uses the rail-system (see part 1). You can see this in the left picture. The rest of this stunt is quite simple. The Jaguar has an automatic-gearbox and this one is put into gear. The car drives now by itself and is steered by the rail. Next he is 'unroofed' and drives against some benzine-barrels. At that moment explosives are detonated and there arises a big blaze. In the episode you see that Semir is shooting at the Jaguar and hits the driver just before the car is 'unroofed'. Of course these shootings have already been made before the car drives to its end via the rail.

Stunt : André hangs from a helicopter
From episode 19 : 'Generalprobe'

In this action-scene André Fux hangs from a helicopter. To let this be as realistic as possible the stuntteam has decided together with actor Mark Keller as André Fux to let Mark hang himself from the helicopter. So in this scene you see Mark hang himself from the helicopter. Of course the actor was hereby connected to the helicopter with several ropes, which you can hardly see in the episodes. So he could never fall down, when he would let go of the helicopter.
